NESPAK and PMA Host Lahore Transport Week
NESPAK, in collaboration with the Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMA), is organizing the Lahore Transport Week at NESPAK House, Lahore the transport week will end till 31 July 2024 . The event, themed “City on the Move: Now Dreams Take Flight,” aims to unite stakeholders, government departments, and agencies under the Committee of Integrated Urban Transport Planning (C-IUTP), established on March 15, 2024.
The event will culminate in a grand seminar to consolidate findings and recommendations from various experts. Attendees include government officials, academics, media representatives, citizens, and both local and international development partners.On the first day, Punjab’s Minister of Transport and Mass Transit, Bilal Akbar Khan, served as the chief guest. Other notable speakers included Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi, Secretary of Transport and Mass Transit; Kanwar Anwaar Ali, Managing Director of PMA; Muhammad Zargham Eshaq Khan, MD of NESPAK; Umar Masood, CEO of the Urban Unit; Zaid Maqsood, Commissioner of Lahore; Ammara Athar, Chief Traffic Officer; Shahryar Chishti, owner of Daewoo Express; and Jamshaid Faisal Janjua, Project Manager at NESPAK. National and international experts in urban transport planning also shared their insights on the public transport challenges in Lahore.
The theme for the first day, “Uncovering City’s Insights,” focused on the transport challenges faced by Lahore. NESPAK’s MD, Muhammad Zargham Eshaq Khan, welcomed the guests and emphasized the need for strategic approaches to public transport issues. Other speakers highlighted traffic congestion, infrastructure stress, and inadequate public transport, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts from all relevant departments for the comprehensive development of Lahore’s master plan. Discussions included assessing and updating the Integrated Bus Operations (IBO) network in Lahore, addressing urban sprawl, traffic congestion, and promoting environmental sustainability through modern transport solutions.
