PRCS Holds Humanitarian Forum on World Red Cross Red Crescent Day Under Theme “United in Humanity”
The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) organized a Humanitarian Forum at its National Headquarters in Islamabad on Thursday in connection with World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day being observed globally under the theme “United in Humanity.”
The event brought together humanitarian leaders, diplomats, government officials, Movement partners, representatives of national and international organizations, PRCS staff and volunteers to reaffirm collective commitment towards serving vulnerable communities and strengthening humanitarian cooperation in Pakistan.
The forum was attended by Chairperson PRCS Mrs. Farzhana Naek, United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Pakistan Mr. Mohamed Yahya as Chief Guest, PRCS Managing Body members, provincial branch leadership, Heads of Delegations and representatives from ICRC, IFRC, German Red Cross, Norwegian Red Cross and Turkish Red Crescent (Kizilay), along with representatives from NGOs, INGOs, UN agencies, NDMA, PDMA and other humanitarian organizations.
An interactive dialogue session titled “Partnerships for Humanity” was moderated by Secretary PRCS Sindh Mr. Kanwar Waseem and Deputy Director PMER Mr. Javed Mazhar, focusing on strengthening collaboration and collective humanitarian action to address growing challenges including climate-induced disasters, emergencies and displacement.
Speaking on the occasion, United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Mr. Mohamed Yahya appreciated the humanitarian services of PRCS and paid tribute to its volunteers for their dedication and commitment. He said the world is facing unprecedented humanitarian challenges driven by climate change, disasters, conflicts and funding constraints, making stronger cooperation, localization and early action more important than ever. He termed PRCS a true example of “localization in action” due to its strong community trust and volunteer network, calling volunteers the “first to arrive and last to leave” during emergencies.
Addressing the forum, Chairperson PRCS Mrs. Farzhana Naek highlighted PRCS initiatives and community-based programs aimed at reducing the suffering of vulnerable communities across Pakistan. She emphasized the vital role of volunteers and stressed that partnerships and collaboration remain central to PRCS humanitarian efforts under the spirit of “United in Humanity.”
In a special video message, IFRC Regional Director for Asia Pacific Mr. Alexander Matheou highlighted growing humanitarian and climate challenges worldwide and appreciated the longstanding partnership between IFRC and PRCS. He acknowledged the progress being made by PRCS under the leadership of Chairperson Mrs. Farzhana Naek in transforming the National Society into a vibrant humanitarian institution. IFRC Head of Delegation in Pakistan Mr. Andreas von Weissenberg also paid tribute to PRCS volunteers and reaffirmed IFRC’s continued support and partnership with PRCS.
Head of Delegation ICRC in Pakistan Mr. Christoph Sutter spoke about increasing humanitarian crises and conflict situations globally, particularly in the Middle East and the wider region, resulting in displacement and human suffering. He highlighted ICRC’s humanitarian work in Pakistan in collaboration with PRCS and praised the dedication of volunteers serving communities in difficult circumstances.
Earlier, PRCS Secretary General Mr. Muhammad Abaidullah Khan presented a detailed overview titled “From Response to Resilience,” highlighting PRCS humanitarian operations, disaster response, climate action, health services and community resilience initiatives across the country.
A documentary showcasing the humanitarian journey of PRCS, historic relief operations and testimonials from beneficiaries was screened during the event. Commemorative shields and mementos were also presented to distinguished guests, partner organizations, provincial branches and dedicated volunteers in recognition of their humanitarian services.
The event concluded with a photo exhibition “PRCS Humanitarian Journey” showcasing the history of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement and PRCS humanitarian operations since its inception.
